Inline hockey

Inline hockey gets its name because it is played with inline skates. It is also referred to as roller hockey. This version of hockey takes place on a smooth plastic surface. This surface is designed to pose minimal resistance to the puck as well as the wheels of any player’s skates.

The game of inline hockey has been a professional sport since 1993. This occurred with the founding of Roller Hockey International. Both U.S. and Canadian teams existed at that time. Since then, many professional inline hockey leagues have been created as well.

Inline hockey is played very similar to ice hockey; however, there are some notable differences. For instance, no checking or icing is allowed. An inline team only has four non-goalie players instead of five. Also, a plastic puck is used as opposed to a rubber one.
