Hockey skate
A hockey skate which has been created for ice hockey players
has two basic parts. These parts are the boot and the blade. Goalie
skates are designed to provide more stability and protection with longer
blades, a lower boot, and thicker material.
The boot portion of a hockey skate is generally created from leather
as well as synthetic materials. Hard plastic options will offer better
protection from stray sticks and pucks. They also offer more support
for a player’s ankle.
An important aspect of the blade of a hockey skate is its radius. This
is the length of the steel which can rest in full contact on the ice.
A longer radius provides more support, while a shorter one allows for
more maneuverability.
