Hockey equipment
Hockey equipment ranges from skates, to jerseys, to goal
posts. Different items are created for game play while other products
are created to protect a player or to enhance his or her abilities.
While many sports may simply require a ball for the most basic level
of play, hockey requires skates and sticks in addition to the puck.
Hockey is a very equipment intensive sport.
When it comes to such hockey equipment as sticks and skates, they are
serving as extensions of the body. Hockey sticks can be viewed as extra
length added to the arms, while skates serve as enhancements for the
feet. When selecting the best versions of such equipment, it is important
to consider a player’s particular function. Goalies may require
more stability while forwards may aim for more maneuverability and speed.
On the other hand, for casual play settings where a person never knows
what position he or she will play, a compromise of beneficial features
may be best.
Much hockey equipment is designed for protection. This comes as no
surprise given the fast-flying puck and the hard-hitting nature of game
play. Equipment must both be designed for durability and stability for
the human body as well as for comfort and mobility. Helmets, face masks,
mouth guards, ear protectors, pads and gloves are examples of such protective
gear.
